3. 강의목표

Course Objective:
In this course, we are mainly concerned with the transport phenomena at the micro and nanoscales. The course is approximately divided into two parts: micro/nano-fluidics and nanoscale energy transport. During the first half semester, we study the micro/nano-fluidics that deals with the dynamics of micro- and nano particles inside fluid and the fluid flows in micro- and nano-channels. During the second half semester, we study the nano-scale energy transport which can be described in terms of dynamics of electrons, molecules, phonons, and photons inside nano-scale structures. By providing fundamental knowledge of micro/nano-scale transport phenomena, we want to help students grow to be major players in the areas of energy, bio-tech, bio-medical, and nano-technology.

Another main point of this course is that we will go through the most important three PDEs: the Navier-Stokes equation, the Maxwell equations, and the Schroedinger equation.

Undergraduate transport phenomena-1 (momentum transport or fluid mechanics) or any other courses of equivalent level.
