One of the goals of this course is to improve students' understanding and ability to participate as global citizens by achieving a strong command of English and its culture, both of which are necessary to engage the world.
This Listening & Speaking is a course designed to develop students listening and speaking skills. In this course, a combination of visual and oral information from authentic sources that have an intrinsic attractiveness and interest for students will be presented. Course material will provide rich cultural and linguistic material to stimulate the student’s senses. This is an integrated skills course that requires students to participate actively throughout the semester.

The first half of the semester will use Podcasts for our course material.
- there will be a workshop day for students to work on their (group) podcast.
The second half of the semester will use documentaries as our course materials.
- there will be a workshop day for students to work on their (group) documentary.
A detailed schedule of the specific podcasts and documentaries will be make available on PLMS shortly before the course begins.

Extensive listening coupled with skill-specific 'circle' roles.

It is not yet known whether the class will be held on-line or off-line.

Course Objectives:

• Provide a significant amount of exposure to target language culture.
• Expose students to a linguistic variety of accents, vocabulary and contexts.
• Develop student’s ability to handle genuine language input.
• Improve students understanding of stress, intonation and use of gestures in communication.
• Develop language skills through pre-viewing, viewing and post viewing activities.
• Through role playing and video monitoring students will have an opportunity for a deeper self-analysis and awareness of their language abilities.
