Advanced Listening & Speaking is a course designed to develop students listening and speaking skills. In this course, a combination of visual and oral information from authentic sources that have an intrinsic attractiveness and interest for students will be presented. Course material will provide rich cultural and linguistic material to stimulate the student’s senses. This is an integrated skills course that requires students to participate actively throughout the semester. This course builds upon, and has higher student performance expectations, than that of Intermediate Listening and Speaking. Upon completion of this course, students will have a higher level of confidence in their speaking and listening skills.

Students will be given links to various podcasts. Podcast topics will cover a wide range of scientific, academic and cultural topics A range of documentaries will also be made available to students.

Course Objectives:

• Provide a significant amount of exposure to target language culture.
• Expose students to a linguistic variety of accents, vocabulary and contexts.
• Develop student’s ability to handle genuine language input.
• Improve students understanding of stress, intonation and use of gestures in communication.
• Develop language skills through pre-viewing, viewing and post viewing activities.
• Through role playing and video monitoring students will have an opportunity for a deeper self-analysis and awareness of their language abilities.
