The pace of change in the business environment is faster today than ever before in that new technologies and innovations force industries and firms to find new ways to compete and survive. As a practical matter, this rapid pace of change has resulted in an increasing number of engineers and technicians moving beyond technology concerns into management. To meet these demands, a business has been required to manage organizational tasks for technology and innovation productively. To do so, however, is greatly challenging to the most of people who never thought they would need to understand the intricacies of managing technology and innovation.
The strategic management of technological innovation (SMTI), therefore, become a fundamental issue that faces all technology-intensive firms today. In this course, we will explore the strategic approaches to SMTI in the course designed to serve as a managerial guide for technical professionals and business practitioners. This type of approach is needed for engineering and science/technology-based students, providing an integrated view of technology/innovation which interacts with external and internal environments.
This course was developed to meet several goals:
1) To integrate strategy and technology/innovation
2) To make the theoretical and practical understanding of SMTI
3) To provide insight into SMTI as an applied discipline that students are able to use.
