Postechian Core Capabilities: Global Citizen Capability (70%), Creative Convergence Capability (30%)
This course is designed to improve students’ English ability through Extensive Reading (ER) activities. ER means doing a lot of reading to learn English language, especially literary works. The authentic reading materials used in this course are books for young adults, which will be used to improve EFL learners’ speaking and writing ability as well as reading ability. Reading is the most fundamental activity in learning knowledge and this course aims to enhance not only reading ability but also other language skills. After taking this course, students can be confident about using English.
One of the goals of this course is to improve students' ability of awareness as global citizens by achieving a good command of English, a world language, through which all intellectual activities are conducted. The other goal, as a consequence of being a global citize, of course, is to enhance creative abilities that can lead to the convergence capability that include creative thinking, combination of knowledge, and combination of experience.
4. 강의선수/수강필수사항
Level 2 should be completed for the students up to 2017. For students who are 2018 or later, if placed based on the test score.

All work must be submitted to PLMS 30 minutes before class or a mark of 0 will be given on that day

9. 수업운영
Attendance: One absence deducts 3 points out of 100. Students with 4 absences will automatically fail the course. Students should achieve 90% in order to get a grade of an “S.”
Presentation
1. Each class, following the quiz, there will be a presentation by an individual student.
2. The presentation will be approximately 8-10 minutes long.
3. The content of the presentation will be taken from the required Reading of chapters for that specific day.
4. In order to choose a topic, the presenter should focus on developing and exploring and idea/subject mentioned in the reading of chapters.
5. The presentation must be closely related to the novel the class is reading at the time of the presentation. The presentation should help the class (and instructor) better understand and appreciate something in the novel and generate a meaningful discussion. The presentation should be well researched, organized, and presented. Everyone in class should learn something from the presentation.
* The presentation should be divided into 3 parts.
1) How is the topic related to the Reading?
2) Explore and develop the topic into a larger presentation that does not focus on the Reading.
3) How does this topic relate to your life or Korean society in general?
10. 학습법 소개 및 기타사항
Reading books is the best way to improve language skills and knowledge thereof.
Student must bring his/her laptop computer to the classroom to do various class activities.
