3. 강의목표
In modern computing systems, it is important to design efficient memory and storage systems as they 1) can significantly bottleneck the performance and energy efficiency of important data-intensive applications, e.g., data analytics, machine learning, and bioinformatics, and 2) directly deal with large amounts of security-sensitive data that are related to our lives. This course focuses on NAND flash memory, a predominant memory technology in architecting modern storage systems, and various optimizations to build fast, secure, and cost-effective NAND flash-based storage systems. In this course, students will gain a comprehensive understanding of modern NAND flash memory-based storage systems, from their cell organizations and operating principles to state-of-the-art optimizations, and review high-impact research papers published in prestigious systems conferences, such as ISCA, ASPLOS, MICRO, HPCA, OSDI, SOSP, ATC, and FAST.
