3. 강의목표
The goal of the course is to study
(1) derivation of PDEs from physical phenomena
(2) properties of various PDEs and their solutions
(3) how to solve PDEs.
In particular, we will discuss about the following topics:
1. derivation of PDEs from physical phenomena: transportation, vibration, diffusion
2. classification of PDEs: elliptic, hyperbolic, parabolic
3. solutions of linear transport equation: characteristic methods
4. solutions to wave equations
5. solutions to heat equations
6. solutions to Laplace equations
7. Applications of Fourier transform and Laplace transform to PDEs
8*.Nonlinear PDEs: discontinuous solution, shock problem
(8* wil be discussed in class if time allows.)
