3. 강의목표

This course explores how altered cellular metabolism drives cancer progression. Students will examine how cancer cells rewire nutrient utilization for energy, growth, and survival, contrasting it with normal cells. Key topics include cancer cells’ increased nutrient consumption, the impact of genetic changes on metabolism, environmental influences, and metabolic interactions between cancer and normal cells. Additionally, the course will focus on metastasis, drug resistance, and recent scientific findings that challenge traditional views of metabolism. Students will learn to critically evaluate research and understand experimental approaches, with insights into pharmaceutical efforts targeting cancer metabolism for new therapies.

Assignments
1) Weekly Assignments
The primary assignment in this course is to read two papers each week and formulate one question per paper to be emailed to the instructors.

2) Oral Presentation
Each student will give a 30-minute oral presentation on a cancer metabolism paper not covered in class. The goal is to critically analyze the paper rather than just summarize the results. Students should provide background information on the research question, explain the methods used, analyze the results, and assess whether the results support the authors' conclusions.
The presentation should primarily focus on critical analysis, with 2–5 slides on experimental methods and 4–10 slides on key results, controls, and conclusions. Students should highlight the most significant result and its importance, including relevant controls. Finally, students should discuss major unanswered questions and propose potential next-step experiments. They will also be expected to answer questions from the audience.
