3. 강의목표
Course objectives
- Learn, ideate, and design sustainable, equitable, and user-friendly (technological) solutions to solve societal issues in the era of the climate crisis and technology divide.
- Practice data-based (social) problem-solving via technology design.
Course overview
- This course delves into the complex interplay between technology and society, investigating how technology can benefit both humanity and the environment.
- Combining social scientific research methods with humanistic insights, students will analyze how technology shapes and is shaped by social, cultural, economic, and political factors.
- Students will critically evaluate and design technologies that contribute to social justice.
- It is a problem-and project-based learning (PBL).
5. 성적평가
• Attendance: 10%
• Class participation: 20%
• Quiz: 10%
• Assignments: 30%
o 3 short essays: 1~ 2 paragraphs about reading materials.
o Two activities: 1) practicing interview; 2) practicing observation.
• Final Team project: 30%

8. 강의진도계획
Module 1: Engineers, Technology/Engineering, and (Social) justice
o Weeks 1-8: Engineering and Conceptual Frameworks
o We review and examine the interrelationship between technology and society (including human
beings, environments, other species).
Module 2: Qualitative Research methods: Field research, participant observation, interviews
o Weeks 9-12: Ethnography, design thinking, and engineering and do (virtual) exercise
o Learn about qualitative research methods such as design thinking and ethnography
Module 3: Final Project
o Weeks 13-16: ideate, develop, and prototype
