3. 강의목표

The aim of this course is to broaden students’ understanding and perspectives on chemical phenomena by covering fundamental topics from general chemistry. It introduces the basic concepts essential for students in the natural sciences and engineering, and enables them to explore various chemical phenomena through experimentation.

4. 강의선수/수강필수사항

- This class is intended for students who are currently taking, or have already completed, General Chemistry.
- Completion of General Chemistry Lab I is a prerequisite for enrollment in General Chemistry Lab II.
- [Important] For General Chemical Experiment I, priority enrollment is given to new students from the Mueunjae School of Undergraduate Studies (MSUS). During the course application correction period, additional registration may be possible until the maximum quota of 38 students is reached. Please note that if first-year students do not take their assigned classes in the designated semester, it may be difficult for them to graduate on time. They may also be unable to enroll on the class in a later semester due to its limited capacity.
- [Important] Participation in experimental classes requires submission of both a consent form for class operations and a certificate of completion for the semester’s 6-hour online laboratory safety training course.
- Students are expected to review the experimental procedures and content in advance, and to enter the laboratory fully prepared for the day’s experiment. A quiz on the day’s experiment will be conducted before the experiment begins.
- All experiments are conducted individually by each student.
- Students must comply with all laboratory safety regulations and follow the instructions of the Instructor in charge, including those related to clothing requirements.

5. 성적평가

- Report (70 points per experiment): Pre-report (10 points), In-lab report (30 points), Final-lab report (30 points)
- Quiz (15 points per experiment): Conducted weekly for 10 minutes prior to the start of the experiment.
- Performance in the class (15 points per experiment): Includes preparation of experiments, punctuality, cleaning up after work, compliance with safety rules, etc.
- Attendance
1) Absences are not accepted. However, if attendance at the scheduled time is impossible due to unavoidable circumstances, an alternative session within the same week may be arranged with prior approval from the Instructor. Approval will only be granted for reasons recognized by the Instructor, such as examinations by the Military Manpower Administration, reserve military force training, or official school events. Relevant documentation is required in these cases.
2) Tardiness and similar issues will result in point deductions from the Class Performance score.

Notes:
* This course is independent from the General Chemistry lecture and will proceed regardless of the lecture’s progress.
* General Chemistry Lab I is offered only in the first half of the semester. General Chemistry Lab II takes place on the same day as General Chemistry Lab I, but in the second half of the semester.
* Please refer to the PLMS notice for guidelines on report preparation, laboratory safety rules, and other important information.

9. 수업운영

o 2:00–2:15 Quiz
o 2:15–2:30 Student presentation and comments
o 2:30– Experiment

Other Important Matters
- Consult the Instructor regarding any matters related to the class.
- In principle, changing to another day’s class is not allowed. If any changes are necessary, consult both your teaching assistant and the Instructor in advance.

10. 학습법 소개 및 기타사항

- All announcements will be made via the PLMS
- Experiments are conducted individually.
- Class materials will be posted on the PLMS one to two weeks before each experiment. Students should download and prepare the necessary files and forms in advance, refer to them during the experiment, and use them for report preparation in the relevant class.
- Students are encouraged to review the booklet How to Prepare an Experimental Report, available in the “Writing Content” section of the campus Writing Clinic.
- Since the evaluation of experimental reports (Pre-Lab, In-Lab, and Final Lab) constitutes the majority of the total score, it is essential to prepare these reports thoroughly.
- Plagiarism is considered a serious academic offense. Any plagiarized report will receive a score of zero, and points will also be deducted from the Class Performance score.
- If a student’s grade is deemed insufficient for a Pass, the instructor may assign an additional task.
