- Lecture room: Rist 3376
Current science opens a new chapter of creative functions and display technology. In order to develop new functions of material, first of all, one has to understand the physical properties, for which the symmetry is the basic. We have already learned a little background of the crystallography in the solid state physics, but we need more precise understanding about the crystallography, and crystal physics for the better understanding about the functions of the materials.
4. 강의선수/수강필수사항
Students who have taken general physics and modern physics are recommended to apply, and it is an easier subject to understand for students who have taken solid state physics. It will be a useful subject for both students who want to get a job at a science or engineering company and students who want to go on to graduate school.
5. 성적평가

This lecture teaches on crystallography-related content such as crystal growth, crystal structure, symmetry, and point groups, which are necessary for students studying solid state physics. Students learn the theory part first, and then excise using the practice problems prepared by the instructor. During class, one can learn crystallography based on actual crystals, crystal models, and atomic models. If necessary, students will create the morphology of crystals through origami and learn about the direction of sight for each crystal system.
10. 학습법 소개 및 기타사항
This lecture is an intensive lecture and is co-taught with Professor Jeong, Se-young of Harvard Medical School.
Practice problem files are provided in ppt format at the beginning of the lecture, and lecture materials with standard solutions are provided only to students who have fully attended the lecture one week before the final exam. Due to the characteristics of the lecture, questions and active discussions are important, and students' active participation is welcome.
