포스테키안 핵심역량: 지식탐구역량(70%), 창의융합역량(30%)
[Introduction]
This course will examine fossil and archaeological evidence related to human evolution based on modern evolutionary theory. Early in the semester, we will cover the fundamentals of evolutionary theory, including phylogenetics, basic anatomy, and some genetics. Subsequently, we will trace the journey from the origins of primates, through Australopithecus and Paranthropus, to Homo sapiens.
[Goals]
1. Understand the fundamentals of evolutionary theory.
2. Understand the basics of phylogenetics (specifically, be able to construct a phylogenetic tree given fossil or genetic data).
3. Understand the evolutionary transitions from primates to modern humans and the evolutionary forces driving major divergences.
4. Understand the fossil, archaeological, and genetic evidence for the origin of modern humans.

[Student Notice]
1. Students unable to take the exam due to unavoidable circumstances may be assigned an alternative assignment instead of the exam only if they consult with me in advance and submit documentation verifying their situation beforehand.
2. Unauthorized absences are permitted once, excluding the very first week (the first week during the add/drop period). Starting from the second absence, 4 points will be deducted from the attendance score. Two tardies will be treated as one absence. If you are absent due to unavoidable circumstances, you must submit documentation proving the reason the following week to have it counted as attendance. Absence notes submitted more than two weeks after the absence will not be accepted.
3. Students wishing to meet for a consultation may visit during office hours. Students unable to attend during office hours may request a meeting via email at any time.
