3. 강의목표

Ultrasonic Transducers is designed to provide students with the fundamentals of physics and design principles of ultrasonic transducers. It will cover the actual design, fabrication, and characterization of the transducers for imaging and therapeutics.

- Understand the physics of ultrasound and the basic principles of imaging and therapeutic applications.
- Learn how to design, fabricate and characterize ultrasound transducers and arrays.
- Understand the beamforming principles of ultrasonic imaging.
- Learn how to measure material properties and evaluate the performance of transducers.
- Experience the actual fabrication and evaluation processes.

The following topics will be covered.
- Review of basic ultrasound physics and piezoelectricity
- Piezoelectric effects, ferroelectricity, and constitutive equations
- Conventional piezoelectric materials, novel piezoelectric materials, and passive transducer materials
- Structures of single-element transducers, Mason and KLM models, PiezoCAD software, beam profiles, and Field II software
- Linear array theory and construction, and annular arrays
- Analog beamformer, digital beamformer, speckle, and scan conversion
- The mathematical basis of finite element analysis (FEA), FEA modeling of linear arrays, and OnScale software
- 1.5D arrays, 2D arrays, and sparse arrays
- Measurements of piezoelectric constants, crosstalk, insertion loss, bandwidth, pressure, and intensity
- High-frequency piezoelectric materials, single-element transducers, and linear arrays
- Thermal and mechanical bioeffects, thermal and mechanical indices, and safety standards
- Design project discussion and presentation

Cheating includes, but not limited to, looking at a neighbor's answer sheet during an in-class exam, copying the solution to an assignment (including the mistakes), handing out your solution to a classmate or modifying a graded assignment/exam before asking for re-grading. Repeated cheating will be reported to the Department of Academic Affairs of POSTECH.
