3. Course Objectives

물질의 물성치 특성과 일과 열의 발생 및 전달의 기본적 원리를 학습하고, 이를 응용하는 실용적 장치 및 효율 증대 기법들을 배운다.
Thermomechanical properties of various substances are studied based on a macroscopic view, and they are applied to the transfer/generation of work and heat with emphasis on the design of systems and techniques of efficient conversion.

Moran's Principles of Engineering Thermodynamics, Global edition (SI version).

8. Course Plan

• Basic principles of engineering thermodynamics
• Mechanical and thermodynamic energy conversion
• Internal energy & the first law of Thermodynamics
• Entropy & the second law of thermodynamics
• Thermodynamic properties of pure substances
• Power generation cycles – vapor power system
• Power generation cycles – gas power system
• Thermodynamic relations

9. Course Operation

Lecture slides and homework assignments will be distributed weekly (or biweekly) via e-mail to each student enrolled in the class. Lecture slides are often sufficient to cover the subject, and yet it is encouraged that students read the textbook for consolidation of the lecture material.
Besides, a few experiment sessions are prepared, as a part of homework, for exposing students to engineering examples.

10. How to Teach & Remark

무은재학부 및 기계공학 전공 학생 수강과목이나, 타 과 학생들도 수강할 수 있음
Students are expected to spend outside the class at least an hour reviewing what they learned and will learn, in addition to approximately two or three hours doing homework. Many students find it helpful to form study groups to discuss homework assignments (no copy from one another, though), which is encouraged.

11. Supports for Students with a Disability
