2. Instructor Information
3. Course Objectives
• PHYS231 aims to provide empirical and theoretical understanding on performing basic physical measurements, which are essential in physics. Starting from the basics of electronic circuits, emphasis will be made on how to obtain data precisely and accurately.
• Making use of analog and digital circuits is essential in performing measurements but it can be tedious to make them work. As this is not a course on electric circuits, to aid the process of learning, we will be making use of the National Instruments ELVIS II system and LabVIEW software. The NI ELVIS II and LabVIEW package will remove much of laborious tasks often associated with electrical circuitry and using measurement equipment.
• Students are expected to learn and become reasonably proficient in making physical measurements (such as, temperature, electrical currents, light power, etc), controlling and automating measurement processes by using a computer, LabVIEW software, etc.
4. Prerequisites & require
5. Grading
Lab report (60) Attendance (15), Presentation (25)
Lab report
10 % deduction/day
