3. 강의목표

Modeling is a key component of any 3D graphics application. This course covers various aspects and approaches of 3D model reconstruction. 3D geometry reconstruction methods could be categorized based on the input data types and output representations. For each category, we will discuss the basic idea and representative approaches. Color and material reconstructions are also important in 3D reconstruction, and we will handle the topics as well. As human would be a popular target of 3D modeling, human body and face reconstruction will also be covered in the course. Lectures are rather focused on traditional approaches on the subjects referring to the related chapters in the textbook as well as online materials. Recent deep learning-based approaches will be briefly discussed in lectures or covered by student presentations.

- Midterm exam: 30%

- Image-based reconstruction (1.5 lectures + 1.5 student presentation)
- Model-based reconstruction (4 lectures + 2 student presentation)
- Term project presentations (2 units)
- Exams (2 units)

9. 수업운영

- Lecture notes will be available at the LMS system.
- There will be no programming assignments. Instead, students are supposed to give presentations of selected research papers and actively participate in the discussions during the lectures.
- Each student should conduct a term project individually. There are no constraints on the topic and development environment for a term project if the topic is related to 3D model reconstruction. Research-oriented topics are highly recommended.
- Students should be able to understand, present, and implement state-of-the-art graphics and vision research papers.
- The final grade will take the class attendance into account.
- For students with S/U grades, the final grades will be U if their letter grades are below B0.
