3. Course Objectives

Postechian Core Capabilities: Global Citizen Capability (70%), Creative Convergence Capability (30%)

Basic English 1 is the first prerequisite English Class under the new curriculum. This course will provide students opportunities to improve their English proficiency through reading, speaking, listening and writing activities. Technical reading skills will be instructed and active participation in speaking activities is expected. Students will be required to give formal-style presentations to the class. Beginning from paragraph-level writing, students will eventually compose a five-paragraph essay. Grammar instruction will be a regular part of the course and grammatical skills will be evaluated in the writings and exams. Students must understand that writing style depends on context, and that this course focuses on developing an appropriate academic style. After completing this course, students will be able to express their opinions and ideas in verbal and written forms with greater competence.

4. Prerequisites & require

This is the most basic level English course offered by POSTECH. There are no prerequisite courses.

Satisfactory/Unsatisfactory System: To receive a grade of Satisfactory (S) you must obtain an average of 90% or higher.

Plagiarism Policy:
The first time an incident of plagiarism occurs, the offending student(s) will receive a zero (0) for the assignment.
The second time an incident of plagiarism occurs by the same student(s) an Unsatisfactory grade (U) will be assigned to the student for the course.

Late Work Policy:
Assignments will not be accepted late. An absence is not an excuse for late work: e-mail me if you must be absent when an assignment is due.

Attendance Policy:
A student with 4 unexcused absences will receive an Unsatisfactory (U).

5. Grading

In order to receive an S grade, you must have at least 90% for the course.
