3. Course Objectives

This PHYS351 is a laboratory course designed primarily for undergraduate students majoring in physics and engineering. You will do experiments and analyze the resulting data on a variety of topics taught in physics classes. You will perform a distinct experiment every week among the following seven topics. At the end of the semester, you will learn how to give an academic presentation, and a topic among the seven topics will be given to each group for the presentation.

1. Muon decay
2. Energy gap of Germanium + Hall effect in N-type and P-type Germanium
3. Franck-Hertz experiment with Ne tube
4. Compton scattering of X-rays
5. Fine structure, one-electron, and two-electron spectra
